Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) provides an independent assessment of whether a product is built correctly (verification) and whether the product will meet the intended goals (validation). In many situations there are advantages to having the verification and validation performed objectively by an independent agent.

The value of IV&V is to help an organization build quality into IT projects during the development and deployment life cycle. IV&V processes provide an objective assessment of products and processes throughout the life cycle. This assessment demonstrates whether the product requirements are correct, complete, accurate, consistent, and testable. The IV&V processes determine whether the results of a project activity conform to the requirements and whether the solution satisfies its intended use and user needs.
